Bedford (UK) Chess Club
Meetings are on Thursday nights from 7.30 p.m. to 10.45 p.m. throughout the year other than August. Meetings take place in the Springs Building (upstairs) on the Bedford College site at Cauldwell Street - plenty of onsite parking available (currently £1 - a college charge).The main chess season for competitive chess (within Bedford Chess Club and with other local chess clubs) starts in the second half of September and ends towards the end of June. Friendly games are also played throughout the year. Guests always welcome; just drop in if you wish - but you might like to get in touch with our designated contact first (see below).
In July, we schedule a series of fun (and they really are!) evenings of rapidplay, non-standard chess. This year (2011), these were scheduled as follows :
July 7th : Handicap chess (time and/or material)
July 14th : Gambit chess variants
July 21st : Endings
July 28th : Chess variants (suicide chess etc)
On the 1st Thursday of September, we have an evening of Lightning Chess (moving every 10 seconds on a buzzer).
Membership : £60 per annum, £45 OAPs and other concessions.
